Abstract:

Understanding environmental choices and behaviour is becoming an increasingly important topic for research. Understanding Society has included questions on environmental attitudes and actions from Wave 1 of the survey and allows researchers to look at environmental choices as part of a wider socioeconomic picture. Thirteen years after the first environmental behaviour module was fielded, ISER would welcome anassessment of how useful Understanding Society is for environmental behaviour and climate change research, and how it could better enable research on the topic. This Working Paper reviews the environmental content in the survey and sets out a proposal for a new module on environmental attitudes.
